J.B. Printing

History

J.B. Printing company, then known as J-B Label (The J.B. stands for John Buckhout) was started in 1933 at 232 W. Michigan Ave. Two years later, the business was moved to the then Saniwax Building (now the Park Trade Center) at 326 W. Kalamazoo Ave.

John and his son-in-law, Harm DeVries, became partners in 1944. In 1970 J-B Label was incorporated to become J.B. Printing Company and then moved the next year to its present location, 429 E. Kalamazoo Ave.

In 1979 Biemer Printing was purchased and almost all of their employees were retained as J.B. Printing employees, which doubled the company’s size to sixteen employees.

In 1980 Harm’s sons, Robert and Charles DeVries, took up equal ownership. From 1970 to 1986 Robert served as company president. In 1987 Charles became president and continues in that position.

In 1999 Amerikal Quality Printing was purchased and almost all of Amerikal employees were retained as J.B. Printing employees, which increased the company’s size to thirty employees. This purchase gave J.B. Printing many capabilities that it did not previously have, such as quick print and the largest bindery in Kalamazoo County.

In July 2007 J.B. Printing purchased a Xerox color digital printer. This enables us to offer high-speed full color and black and white copies, with in-line folding, stapling, booklet making and hole punching.
